The Different Types of Conformers
The Different Types of ConformersConformers are special non-covalent bonds that do not involve any self-linking groups, and are the result of three or more bonding systems. These systems can be monomers, oligomers or other complexes, where the concentration of specific bonds in one system makes the molecular number in the other system larger. For example, polyamide, a polymer, can have di- and tri-valent conformers, where the first type is larger than the second type.Conformers are usually constructed by joining two or more different molecules in a chemically stable manner. The system used is usually different from that used in assembling the individual parts of the molecule. For example, the polyamide is created by combining one styrene molecule with a phosphorous one, forming a ring, and one hydroxyl group and one alkene group, to form a polyanhydride. These are strong covalent bonds, and the resulting structure, when assembled correctly, is called a polyamide. However, if you repla ce the hydroxyl group with a carboxyl group, and then assemble the polyamide using other methods, you get the polyamide that is commercially produced by the company BASF in Austria. This method of formation of polyamides is known as mesotherapy.Conformers are also found in synthetic biology and biotechnology, which involves genetically modifying living organisms. In this case, the protein chains are chemically synthesized in a laboratory and then put into living cells. Some of these processes also use co-substitutions of amino acids in order to get particular functions.Conformers are also used in pharmaceutical industry as structural analogues. They are used to mimic a chemical structure in a laboratory sample, which will be subjected to stringent testing for purity. In this case, the result of the experiment is either a pure synthetic drug or a mixture of compounds, which have similar chemical structure, but different properties.Conformers are very common in organic chemistry. But other forms of chemical bonds are often used, to allow a step in chemical synthesis without having to employ the use of the single bond system. Many of these methods are not studied in organic chemistry and are still used widely, even in organic chemistry.Conformers are useful to organic chemists because they are used in such diverse situations. Therefore, if you want to become a good organic chemist, you must have an interest in the different types of conformers.

Word Counter How to Use the Word Counter on the Virtual Writing Tutor When you want to know how many words are in a particular text, paste the text into the text area and click the Count Words button. The system will count your words and sentences, and calculate your average sentence length. The text you enter can be any length. There is no limit. Contractions of two words with apostrophes are counted as one word. For example, words like isnt, its, and dont are counted as one word each. Numbers without spaces between them are counted as one word. For example, 1, 10, 100, 1000 are counted as four words. Just so you know, the word counter does not count numbers alone without words. If you try to count numbers only, the VWT will tell you, You need to enter some text to make this work. Average sentence length is calculated by counting the number of words and dividing it by the number of sentences. The minimum number of sentences it will count is 2. If you enter This is one sentence. This is another sentence. the system will report a sentence count of 2 and an average sentence length of 4. If you enter This is one sentence. This is one more sentence. the system will report a sentence count of 2 and round up the average sentence length from 4.5 to 5. Understanding My Grandmothers English
Understanding My Grandmothersâ English We travelled to Eastern Montana to see my Grandmothers. I couldnât help imagining my students meeting them and trying to understand their English. They speak in an older way and use tons of idioms and strange colloquial phrases. The mountains near Lewistown, where one of my grandmothers lives.Iâm going to review a few here and talk about some of the idioms that you might hear an older American use. This is the ultimate test of your English level. Next time we visit them I will record them talking about something and post it to see if you can understand. They are also very good story tellers and as old Montanans they have some fascinating stories. Here are some idioms and colloquial English phrases my grandmothers from Eastern Montana commonly use:See if you canâtthey use this when they are suggesting something or want you to do something. For example: See if you canât find the news station on TV. She is asking you to find the news station. I think this is a way of being polite and is a bit of colloquial English.Say.This is like the old version of hey. It is to get your attention. For example: Say, Teauna did you hear about your cousin? They always use it at the beginning of a sentence, just as an attention stopper.DrinkMy grandmother uses this for any body of water, the kitchen sink, the swimming pool, the lake, or the bath. For example: Just put your plate in the drink and Iâll wash it up later (kitchen sink). Well, Iâm going to go get in the drink before bed (bathtub). This summer we made it to the drink every weekend (lake).Hotter than a pistolthis is used when it is hot outside. This fall it was hotter than a pistol.Madder than a hornetthis is used to describe when someone is very angry. He was just madder than a hornet when he found out about his paycheck.

5 Ways to Survive Spring Semester of Senior Year
5 Ways to Survive Spring Semester of Senior Year Spring Semester of Senior Year: 5 Ways to Survive Spring Semester of Senior Year: 5 Ways to Survive Spring semester of senior year in high school is now underway. This can be a time of mixed emotions and huge life changes that can strongly affect a students ability to concentrate. Although it seems like high school is pretty much over, its important for students to be able to survive and thrive through this last term so they can keep their grades up and maintain stability. If seniors can look at a few of the common problems they may face, theyll have a better idea of how to survive spring semester. 1. College letters One of the things that will affect high school seniors the most this term is the arrival of college acceptance (and denial) letters. This will be a big issue for any student who applied to a college or university. Once students know their options for attendance, they will have the big decision of narrowing down their choice to just one school. Each student will have a different experience, and its important that they are able to maintain their concentration throughout the anticipation and decision-making process (READ: Tips from a Fullerton tutor: how to overcome senioritis). 2. Maintaining focus One way students can maintain focus is to get a little bit of help with organization. This may come from any number of apps, their classroom teacher, a parent, tutor, or study group. Its important that students think about both the small picture and the big one. Students will have any number of assignments, tests, and quizzes that they have to complete this week but they should also look at the remainder of the academic year as a whole and make sure theyre meeting all of their goals. Most seniors will be enrolled in an AP course, and will still have to maintain their focus so they can perform well on that exam in May (READ: Best 5 math apps for high school students). 3. Staying within a routine Seniors are encouraged to stick to the routine that has been working for them up until now. Once students know they have been accepted into college, it can be easy to give into the temptations of senioritis and stop trying altogether. However, students who have a strong dip in GPA right at the end of their high school career may be denied the opportunity for scholarship-based financial aid or graduation honors. Additionally, seniors are encouraged to remember that their university acceptance is conditional; meaning that if their GPA changes significantly, the college may revoke their acceptance. Students can stay within their routine by continuing to meet with their tutor and study group, continuing to participate in any volunteer or after school clubs, and arranging for social time on the weekends. 4. Getting ready for next year At this point, seniors shouldnt look too far into the future when it comes to making specific plans because it may distract them from their current applications. However, there are a few things seniors need to look at sooner rather than later. Financial aid and scholarship applications will require immediate attention and students will need to make sure they have done everything required to enroll in their chosen university. Other than that, students are encouraged to make a checklist with due dates for everything they need to do during the summer so they can get started as soon as high school ends (READ: 4 differences between high school and college that may catch you by surprise). 5. Spend quality time with friends and family One of the most important things seniors can do is simply spend quality time with friends and family who they wont see as much next year. Most college freshman will be making all new friends in a few months so its nice to enjoy current high school friendships so they can survive the distance of college life. Additionally, when students are off at college, they may miss their family more than they think. Spring semester is a great time to participate in social activities with family and friends before going off to the big adventure that is the university experience. Four Ways to Work Out With a Full-Time Job
Four Ways to Work Out With a Full-Time Job Image via Pexels.com The quick nature of HIIT workouts makes them the perfect routine to incorporate into your day. Wake up a little early before workâ"easier said than done, but you can do itâ"and do a short HIIT to get your body moving for the day. Youâll feel more awake and ready to take on the dayâs tasks while also working towards your fitness goal! Alternatively, you can complete a workout as soon as you get home from work. You can find tons of HIIT workouts online, especially videos by various fitness gurus on YouTube. Here is a sample HIIT workout by Melody Scharff from The Fhitting Room. 2. Use every free minute wisely Thereâs always time for working out in your day, even in moments youâd least expect. If you have extra time on your lunch break, go for a walk around the building outside. Instead of driving to and from work every day, try walking if itâs close enough. You can also walk to the bus stop and go to work from there. According to Experience Life, âpeople who take alternative transportation tend to get more exercise than daily car commuters.â Even just a brisk five-minute walk every so often during your workday will help build your endurance. You have to start somewhere, and soon enough youâll be able to jog for a mile! Image via Pexels.com If youâre constantly competing with yourself, try using a pedometer, a step-counter. Youâll have a daily step goal to reachâ"see if you can beat it! All of you tech-savvy fitness lovers should invest in a FitBit. Alternatively, iPhones also have a pedometer in the built-in Health app. 3. Stay active at your desk If youâre stuck at that desk job all day, why not get some health benefits from it? Try doing some workouts while you get your work doneâ"the best type of multitasking there is. Studies have shown that sitting all day isnât so great for your health. This is because when we sit, we burn less calories. So, if you sit at a desk for 8 hours, thatâs 8 hours of not burning any calories. To eliminate this problem, ditch the rolling desk chair for a stability ball. Now, although itâs fun to do, donât just bounce on the ball all day while you work. Sitting on a stability ball will strengthen your core. Do a few crunches every so often to keep your body active while you sit. You should also consider standing at your desk for at least half an hour. Image via Pexels.com Try some leg raises or butt squeezes at your desk if youâre concerned about remaining subtle. No one will notice these small but effective movements under your desk! Here are some more ideas for staying active at your desk. 4. Find some fun workouts that youâll enjoy doing One of the most important aspects of a successful workout is your attitude. If you dread working out, you arenât going to see the best results. To stay motivated for your fitness plan, choose some workout routines that you enjoy doing. Try fencing, yoga, swimming, or dancing. Here are a few fun ways to get fit without a gym. You can also set up a reward system for finishing workouts, such as television time or eating a small snack. Create a playlist of your favorite music that you only listen to while you work outâ"this way, youâll work forward to fitness. Try doing some workouts with a close friend a few times each week. Working out should always be something you enjoy. If you find that you arenât enjoying your fitness plan, make changes as soon as possible.
Irvine PSAT Tutoring Dont Stress About the PSAT - TutorNerds
Irvine PSAT Tutoring Dont Stress About the PSAT - TutorNerds Tips from an Irvine PSAT Tutor: Donât Stress About the PSAT Tips from an Irvine PSAT Tutor: Donât Stress About the PSAT If you are considering taking (or have already taken) the PSAT, you might be wondering how important the test and your scores on it are. PSAT stands simply for âPreliminary SAT,â so its predominant purpose is to be an introduction to the standardized testing style of the SAT. The PSAT is a full-length, proctored, standardized test administered by College Board (the same group that makes the SAT). As such, itâs a good early simulation of the conditions and pacing that you can expect on the SAT book your private Orange County PSAT tutor today. That being said, I will take a somewhat controversial opinion in stating that the PSAT is not very important or significant for students. You should not worry and stress about getting a good PSAT score or not. You donât need to study specifically for the PSAT. You also do not have to seek out and pay to take the PSAT if your school is not giving it to you for free (or requiring it). Hereâs why: 1. PSAT Scores Do Not Improve SAT Scores It is relatively well-known that students who take the PSAT tend to have improved scores on the regular SAT when compared to students who never took the PSAT. This is one reason why many schools offer the PSAT for free or require it to be taken â" they believe it will boost their studentsâ eventual SAT numbers a year or two later. However, the exact same effect is seen when taking any official SAT practice test: the first test you get a lower score, then the next test (even if itâs taken only a few days later) your score âmagicallyâ jumps up by 100 points or more. This is simply because students are not used to this type of test until they try it. In the first practice test they learn about the question types, they read the instructions, they get an idea of how fast they need to go, etc. If you have never taken a practice test, then the PSAT will have this same effect for you. However, a practice test is just fine, and arguably better since you will have the test to go over and review what you got wrong. Thereâs nothing intrinsically special about the PSAT test itself that brings your scores up. Itâs just practice. 2. The National Merit Scholarships Arenât as Common as You Think A very common reason given for taking the PSAT is the opportunity to win a national merit scholarship for your score. These scholarships are given to students who score particularly well on the test, and it is a reason that many people give for taking the test. While I do agree that every opportunity to earn potential scholarship money is valuable, the National Merit Scholarships tend to be blown out of proportion for how available they are. Using the official 2017-2018 annual report, we can find that 1.6 million students took âeligibleâ PSAT exams that year. Of those students, about 2% got a nice âgood jobâ certificate for their high scores. No scholarships for them. Only 0.5% of students earned a scholarship for their score. Many blogs say you need to take the PSAT to potentially be a merit scholar, but students should recognize that only about 1 in 200 test takers earn one. 3. The PSAT Is Not the Best Practice The PSAT is objectively easier than the SAT. It is also shorter but gives you more time per question for some questions. It also does not have an essay. These differences are not huge, but they are significant. If you are preparing for the SAT for college applications, you want your practice to mimic the real thing as closely as possible. Easier tests might leave you over-confident before the real test. Taking shorter practice tests might not prepare you as well for the length of the actual SAT. This becomes significant if you are planning to do the essay, which the PSAT will not prepare you for. Similarly, the no-calculator section on the PSAT might mess with your pacing since you get nearly 20% more time on PSAT no-calculator math questions. The purpose of this message is not to convince you to not take the PSAT, or to not take it seriously when you take it. On the contrary, I recommend taking it to all of my students. Itâs cheap ($17 â" though some schools make it free and others add on a little more in an admin fee), you might win a scholarship, and it gives you proctored, standardized test experience in a testing environment. Ideally, I think students should take a practice PSAT, then the real PSAT starting in 8th or 9th grade. In 10th grade, you can take the PSAT as well (or again), but you should also be incorporating official SAT practice tests in your studying. The reason for this blog is to reduce the stress associated with the test. If your school doesnât administer it, donât worry. You are allowed to take it at a neighboring local school that does offer it, or you can just skip it. You donât need it to improve your SAT score. You probably wonât be missing out on a merit scholarship. It is not the best way to practice. And if you arenât happy with your PSAT score, again â" donât worry. You can still do very well on the SAT if you start early, use the best, official preparation material and practice tests, and consider looking into an experienced Irvine SAT tutor to guide the way.
